Vic: ALP Burwood pamphlets should be withdrawn, Libs
MELBOURNE, Dec 9 AAP - Labor pamphlets distributed as part of Saturday's Burwood by-election
breached Victoria Police policy and should be recalled, the state opposition said today.
Opposition police spokesman Peter Ryan said a blue and white motif on the envelopes,
labelled "Police Update", was too similar to the Victoria Police logo.
"Labor is trying to pass its fliers off as official police material," he said.
"Clearly this is an attempt to use a well-respected motif to gain political credibility
and leverage and it must be recalled."
Instructions published by the chief commissioner limits use of the blue and white chequered
band to police signage, vehicles and stations.
Voters in Burwood will decide on Saturday who replaces former premier Jeff Kennett,
who resigned after he lost government in October.
The Liberal Party holds the seat with a 6.8 per cent margin.
