Vic: Man charged over crash that killed baby

Police have charged a man over a Melbourne crash that's resulted in the death of an unborn baby.

The baby died in hospital after its mother .. who was eight months pregnant .. was
seriously injured in the accident in East Bentleigh last night.

AMRIK THIND has this morning faced an out-of sessions court at Oakleigh .. charged
with dangerous driving causing serious injury and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

Unborn babies are counted in the road toll if they weigh more than 400 grams or the
mother is more than 20 weeks into the pregnancy.

The death takes Victoria's holiday road toll to 12 and the national toll to 46.
